Mr. Avery and Ms. Jennifer from Hungry Mother State Park came to PH PE classes. They taught students about safe campsite set up, how to set up and take down a tent, camp fire safety and about leave no trace. We appreciate their willingness to connect our students to the outdoors.

Buses in the Konnarock, Green Cove, and Taylor's Valley area will run on a 2 hour delay today, Thursday, January 4th.

Due to construction at PHHS, there will be some minor changes for student and faculty parking and bus lane pickup/dropoff protocols. The school entrance driveway at the front of PHHS that serves as the lane for our school bus student dropoff and pickup will be shortened and re-rerouted (the new bus pathway around the front of the school will be the 1st couple rows of student/faculty parking). Students parking in the front parking lot can enter school through the rear cafeteria entrance or at the front main entrance. We ask that students and parents be mindful of the construction and potential hazards/ barriers that may occur. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance.

Congratulations to Mr. Pete Marcum who was selected as Patrick Henry High School's teacher of the year. Mr. Marcum has taught at PH for 10 years, but has been in education for 31 years. He teaches Small Ensemble, Music Appreciation, Music Theory, and Band.

Mrs. Johnson, with Communities in Schools, treated Mr. Marcum's 1st period class to Cheddar Rounds this morning. This class won the No Tardies November challenge.

Ms. DiSantis’ Ecology class defended their Alien Ecosystem Projects today to 3rd period students. Student groups were challenged to create multiple ecosystems that could be found on a different planet based on ecosystem characteristics that we observe on Earth.

Patrick Henry High School French 1 students learned about French cuisine throughout the Francophone culture. They spent a week preparing an authentic menu for the country of their choice and prepared it in the target language along with putting together a "price fixed" menu. Each group presented at least (1) menu item to their peers and celebrated their hard work in learning about French cuisine! Switzerland- Chocolat Chaud (hot chocolate) & Alplernagronen (German mac & cheese dish) Belgium- Belgian Waffles Marseille (France)- Citron Presse Democratic Republic of the Congo- Congolese Chicken & Puff Puffs Monaco- Ice Cream Sundaes

Wednesday, December 6: Washington County VA Schools will operate on a regular schedule EXCEPT the Konnarock/Greencove/Taylor's Valley Community. This area will be on a TWO HOUR DELAY.

At the meeting last night, the @washcovaschools Board voted to close schools on March 5, 2024 to accommodate election officials as they administer the Presidential Primary. Not quite as exciting as a Snow Day, but still important information!

Washington County School Board honored three board members tonight for decades of selfless service to the students of Washington County Schools. Thank you, Mrs. Elizabeth Lowe, Mrs.Megan Hamilton, and Mr. Bill Brooks for the work and dedication to the students of WCPS!
