Opportunity for all ages.

Good afternoon,
Washington County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday January 10, 2024. Our WCPS specific Accuweather Forecast gives us reason to believe that we would need to operate on a 2-hour delayed schedule tomorrow. Since a 2-hour early dismissal is already scheduled, adding a 2-hour delay would become a logistical nightmare for students, parents, and staff.
I apologize for interrupting your daily routine with this closure, but hopefully the early notification will provide ample time for parents to make arrangements. We will provide free childcare for working parents who are unable to make arrangements for their children. This service is being provided as a result of goals our School Board adopted last summer. All Elementary and Middle Schools will be open tomorrow to serve students whose parents have to go to work and can’t make other arrangements. Be on the lookout for messaging from your school about specific details, hours of operation, etc.
Again, I apologize for this inconvenience. Please let me know if you have questions, suggestions, or concerns.
Thank you,
Keith Perrigan, Ed.D.

The entire seventh grade class of Wallace Middle School participated in a holiday sock exchange! Ms. Bradshaw read a modified version of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Students passed socks around the circle according to the story and then opened their socks together!

On Friday, December 1, WCYB meteorologist Teresa Carter joined 6th grade students at WMS for a discussion of weather conditions. Sixth grade students study weather as part of the Science 6 Standards of Learning. Ms. Carter shared information about weather, forecasting, severe and winter weather. The students participated in weather trivia, but were mostly interested in Ms. Carter's upcoming forecasts of snow!

Congratulations to Mrs. Brittany Hicks for being nominated and chosen by her peers as the WMS Teacher of the Year 2023. Mrs. Hicks is a vital member of the WMS faculty, who goes above and beyond to help ensure the success of all students. She is a strong student advocate and never hesitates to do whatever is asked of her and often, much more. Mrs. Hicks always has a smile on her face and shows grace and empathy to all who surround her.

Wallace Middle School eighth grade class held its 24th annual Veterans Day Celebration on November 10, 2023. The student-led event featured original essays, art work, and song selections by the WMS Chorus. Brigadier General Christopher D. Hill presented an inspiring keynote address, while Delegate Israel O’Quinn offered memorable opening remarks. Guests were invited to join students for lunch following the program, which allowed for conversations and extended understandings of veteran commitments. It was a time of reflection on the importance of being thankful for our service men and women, as well as their sacrifices for our country.

Wallace Middle School BETA and Gifted Education students had the opportunity to attend an etiquette luncheon at Martha Washington Inn on November 28th. Students enjoyed a three course meal and a lesson in appropriate dining manners. They were also treated to a tour of the Inn's facilities. Everyone had a wonderful time and looks forward to making this an annual event.
