SPANISH

Spanish I ­

Grade:9–12                         Course Number: 5510                    Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Students will have an A or B average in English. Spanish I is a basic introduction to the Spanish language, stressing equally the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

 

* Spanish II - V continues the study of the language stressing verb tenses, idioms, and more complex grammatical structures. Reading , writing, listening, and speaking are still stressed as well as continued study of the Hispanic life style.

Spanish II ­

Prerequisite: Students will have an A or B average in English and a C or above in Spanish I.

Spanish III ­

Prerequisite: Students will have a C or above in Spanish II.

Spanish IV ­

Grade: 11 – 12                     Course Number 5540B                  Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Students will have a C or above in Spanish III.

Spanish V

Prerequisite: Students will have a C or above in Spanish IV.

 

FRENCH

French I

­Grade: 9 – 12                                          Course Number: 5110B                           Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Students will have an A or B average in English. French I is a basic introduction to French grammar and culture.

Students will study basic French vocabulary and grammar and learn about life in France and other French-speaking countries. Students will engage in listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities.  The importance of French as an international language will be emphasized, as well as contributions made by French speaker to world literature, art, science, and technology.

French II ­

Grade: 10 – 12                                        Course Number:   5120B                         Credit: 1

Students will continue their study of French vocabulary and learn more complicated grammar (in particular, past and future tenses and object pronouns). Students will engage in listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities, with oral skills being emphasized.  Students will learn more about daily life in francophone countries and the contributions made by French speakers.

Prerequisite - successful completion of French I

French III ­

Grade: 11 – 12                                        Course Number: 5130                           Credit: 1

Students will continue their study of French vocabulary and learn more complicated grammar  (in particular – compound tenses, present subjunctive, relative pronouns).  Speaking and writing skills will be emphasized.  Projects will include in-depth research of a francophone country, and reading and analyzing a literary work.

Prerequisite – successful completion of French II

 

LATIN

Latin I

Grade: 9 12                                      Course Number: 5310                Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Students will have an A or B average in English. Students learn basic grammar and syntax form including the first three declensions of nouns, the four conjugations  verbs -active and passive voices  and Latin vocabulary with an emphasis on derivation.

Latin II

Grade: 10 12                                 Course Number: 5320                  Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Students will have an C or above in Latin I.

Latin III

Grade: 11 12                                  Course Number: 5330B                Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Students will have an C or above in Latin II.

Latin IV

Prerequisite: Students will have an C or above in Latin III.
